Communes of French Polynesia

French Polynesia is divided into five subdivisions, which are further divided into 48 communes. In addition, Clipperton Island is a French possession administered from French Polynesia. Here are the communes of French Polynesia.

Commune: except for Clipperton Island, which is treated as its own commune for completeness. HASC: Hierarchical administrative subdivision codes. The middle two letters identify the subdivision. For key, see the Subdivisions of French Polynesia page. Code: Insee code for commune. Prefix `987` to get the full code. Ex.: `98740` for Rangiroa. Insee is the French national statistics agency. Population: 2007-08-20 census.

Change history:

1972: Forty-four communes created (all the existing ones except Faaa, Papeete, Pirae, and Uturoa, which already existed).
1999-03-19: Status of communes changed to circonscriptions territoriales (?).
