  • HASC: Hierarchical administrative subdivision codes.
The middle two letters identify the region.
  • Population: 2000-12-31.
  • Alt name: Names as given in the 1986 edition of
Statistik Årbog. I think that these are the Danish names,
while the first column has the names in Faroese.

  1. ~2001: Name of Froðbøur commune changed to Tvøroyri.
  2. 2005-01-01: Mikladalur commune merged with Klaksvik; Elduvík, Oyndarfjørður, and Skali communes merged with Runavík; Gjógv, Haldarsvík, Hósvík, Hvalvík, and Saksun communes merged with Sund; Bøur and Mykines communes merged with Sørvágur; Hestur, Kirkjubøur, Kollafjørður, and Nolsoy communes merged with Tórshavn.
  3. 2009-01-01: According to Faroese Wikipedia , if I understand it right, Funningur commune merged with Runavík; Svinoy commune merged with Klaksvik; Gota and Leirvík communes merged to form Eystur; Miðvágur and Sandavágur communes merged to form a new Vágur.
