When Rumonge province was formed, I changed the HASC codes for the two provinces that lost communes, but I neglected to make the corresponding changes for the communes of those provinces. Now I have made up the neglect.

Change history:

The following table lists 114 communes of Burundi, as of ~1996, based on source [2]. Source [4], dated 1985, shows the same divisions, except for a few name changes.

1. ~1997: In Gitega province, Nyarusange commune created. On the map, it looks as if Nyarusange was formed from parts of Gitega and Gishubi communes.
2. 1998-12-10: Mwaro province split from Muramvya (former FIPS code BY05, HASC code BI.MU).
3. ~2004: In Bujumbura Mairie province, Bujumbura split into nine communes of Buterere, Buyenzi, Bwiza, Cibitoke, Gihosha, Kamenge, Kanyosha, Kinama, Kinindo, Musaga, Ngagara, Nyakabiga, and Rohero. (This division may have existed before now, and the communes may have been called zones or something else; the 2008 census report is the only source I have that clearly lists them as communes.) In Bujumbura Rural province, Bugarama and Nyabiraba communes created. On the map, it looks as if Bugarama must have been split from Muhuta. Nyabiraba may have been created from parts of Kanyosha, Mugongomanga, and Mutambu.
4. 2015-03-26: By Law No. 1/10, Rumonge province formed by taking Burambi, Buyengero, and Rumonge communes from Bururi province and Bugarama and Muhuta communes from Bujumbura Rural province. Those changes are reflected in the HASC codes in the main table above.
