Changes affecting status:

  1. Cambodia: New province created. Municipalities changed to provinces.
  2. France: Possible creation of department-level metropolises.
  3. Iraq: A new governorate will be created.
  4. Kyrgyzstan: An independent city was split from its province.
  5. Laos: A new province is being created.
  6. Montenegro: Petnjica commune formed.
  7. Panama: New province created.
  8. South Sudan: Change two capital cities.
  9. United Kingdom: There is a plan to merge council areas in Wales.

Other data added:

The U.S. Board on Geographic Names has issued update 14 to Geopolitical Entities and Codes. It covers changes to the standard for Cape Verde, Congo (Brazzaville), Kyrgyzstan, Namibia, Nigeria, and changes that are not relevant to statoids data for Belarus, Germany, Niger, South Africa, and Spain.

I'm going through the U.N.'s 1979 Demographic Yearbook systematically and adding census data from the 1970s where needed. This month I've worked with Bangladesh, Chile, Côte d'Ivoire, Fiji, Finland, French Polynesia, Israel, Maldives, Mozambique, Myanmar, Pakistan, Saint Kitts-Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sri Lanka, Sweden, and Yemen.

  1. Bulgaria: Added 2011 census data.
  2. Curaçao: Added 2011 census data.
  3. Czech Republic: Added 2011 census data.
  4. India: Added 2011 census data.
  5. Kyrgyzstan: Added 2009 population data.
  6. Lithuania: Added 2011 census data.
  7. Marshall Islands: Added 2011 census data.
  8. Netherlands: Added 2012 population data.
  9. Nigeria: Changed spelling of one state.
  10. Palestine: Added 2007 census data.
  11. Panama: Added 2010 census data.
  12. Slovakia: Added 2011 census data.

Secondary divisions:

  1. Czech Republic: Added 2011 census data.
  2. India: Added 2011 census data and updated list of districts.
  3. Marshall Islands: Added 2011 census data.
  4. Palestine: Added 2007 census data.
  5. Panama: Added 2010 census data. Added new district formed in 2001. Adjusted for creation of new province.

Time zones:

  1. India: There is a proposal to create a new time zone.
