1. Chad: reorganized into 18 regions.
2. Haiti: added Nippes department.
3. Venezuela: name of capital district changed.
4. Syria: changed preferred spelling of some provinces.

5. Russia: Krasnoyarsk voted to unite.
6. Saudi Arabia: updated populations to 2000.
7. Sierra Leone: updated populations to 2004 provisional census results; added population history.

10. Syria: updated populations to 2002 estimates.

Site design changes:

1. Added Country cross-reference page.
2. Revamped the "Other names of country" sections. For some languages I now provide the gender and number of nouns (italics), information which is hard to find on the Internet and is needed for translating text into those languages. Thanks to Karem Abdalla and Jose Gavinha for reviewing the genders of the German and Portuguese names, respectively.
3. Added a page of explanation for each of the article headings, and links from the heading to their explanations.

Time zones:

Over the last year, I've updated the Statoids website to include all of the information from the book "Administrative Subdivisions of Countries". While doing so, I tried to merge in the updates that were made since the book was written. In some cases, I missed time zone updates. I have now brought the time zone information into synch for the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, British Indian Ocean Territory, French Polynesia, Heard and McDonald Islands, Mongolia, Pitcairn, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Timor-Leste, and Tokelau.

1. Haiti: adopted DST this year.
2. Nicaragua: adopted DST this year.
3. Tunisia: adopted DST this year.
